What I’m thinking about this week….
Salt, Fat, Acid Heat is coming to Netflix!
I’ve mentioned the cookbook ‘Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat’ by chef and writer, Samin Nosrat, before on my blog: here and here.
The premise is that by mastering just four elements – salt, fat, acid and heat – everything you cook will be delicious. By taking her cookbook to screen, Samin invites you on a culinary journey through the four flavor profiles (Japan = salt, Italy = fat, Mexico = acid, and Berkeley, CA = heat) showcasing all types of food professionals, chefs, home cooks and more in the process. The series launches October 12th on Netflix. To view the trailer, and find out more, click here.
Missing Italy and All That Wine
If you follow my Instagram, you know that I just got back from a trip to Italy. I’ve been quite a few times, but after being away from it for a bit, you tend to forget HOW MUCH food and wine are so important to the culture. Sitting around a table with friends and family, indulging in LONGGGGG meals with delicious and fresh food, superb wines and more…it makes you wish for la dolce vita 24/7.
I loved reading this article in Food and Wine, which highlights Brooklyn native, Cha McCoy. After living in Rome from 2010 to 2012 to earn her MBA, she devised a scheme to make wine her career. Fascinated by the long Italian meals and the communal experience of wine, delicious food and warm company, she took her love of Italy and wine to a whole new level. In addition to becoming certified by The Court of The Master Sommeliers, she hosts intimate and casual wine dinners, appropriately named “The Communion” where strangers gather over food and wine to learn, celebrate and just enjoy each other’s company – an ode to her time in Italy.
Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t include some delicious picture of food and wine from my most recent trip as well. Buon appetito! Enjoy!
